Ignoring my parents' advice, Cavas Mamoo gave me my first puppy, a Daschund we called Happy who always lived up to his name! Mamoo was a favourite of his grandfather and his mother and when he finished school he asserted himself by replying to an ad in The Times Of India to co–drive a Skoda car from Bombay to Czechoslavakia with the Czech owner. From there he went on to London where he studied aeronautics and met his wife Roshan (another story); and now he is being reunited with her, with Judy and with the Universal Spirit of Love. My ma who loved him fiercely said "He had a good innings". His son Kaikoo and the rest of us carry his legacy of adventure and love. |
On 21st January 2012 our beloved Judy lost her battle with cancer which she fought valiantly to the very end. She was lovingly cared for by Kershasp, Jon & Sherry and the joy of her life was little Olivia for whom she so wanted to live. Her body is gone but her spirit lives forever in our hearts and in the beauty of her children, grand-child, and in nature which she so loved.
Judy was a very special person and she made everyone around her feel special too. The love she showered on our children, the care and concern she had for all the family is her legacy to us, to be treasured, emulated and passed on and on and on…… |

Seattle, 24 November 2011> .

Farhad's home was the cozy venue for his Thanksgiving party. It was the first Thanksgiving celebration H and I had the pleasure of attending inside the United States. The weather was pure Seattle - cold, wet and blustery - but the gathering of friends around the dinner table, with the fire blazing in the fireplace, was warm and congenial. |

We spent a week in and around Cody, Wyoming with our friend from Somalia days, Ray Carpenter. Ray drove us everywhere to see everything there is to see within 100 miles of Cody, including the hot baths and Dinosaur Center at Thermopolis, the cliff-face petroglyphs at Legend Rock, and many other places of interest. But the highlight of our stay was a tour of Yellowstone National Park under Ray's expert guidance.
We had brunch and spent a wonderful day with Rod and Lynn Morrison at their home near Cody. We also made the acquaintance of some of Ray's friends. Wyoming's cowboy culture is most endearing, with its emphasis on civility, kindness, self-sufficiency and genuine warm hospitality.
.jpg) Being with Ray was a real treat. One of life's greatest pleasures is to reunite with old friends and relive the memorable times spent together in the unusual circumstances and out-of-the-way places life has taken us over the years.

“You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them” – Desmond Tutu.
August and September were very special Family months for us – We celebrated mum’s 100th birthday in Sydney and that brought us all together after 26 years! Shehernavaz (my sis) especially flew down from Texas so that she could meet Azura (our granddaughter) for the first time ever, and Farhad left the US and came “home” to us after 17 years.
It was a short, fun-filled, loving, laughing, unforgettable time for us all!

deer park, rainforest canopy walkway, the Petrosains science discovery centre, visits to Granny
and Boompa, Chinatown, and of course sampling the city's culinary delights.

Sydney, week of 5 September 2011>
Alice Tyabji had a hectic week celebrating the completion of a hundred years of remarkable living spanning three continents.
Her most fervent wish for her 100th birthday, to be surrounded by her family, had come true! Her children, grand children, great grandchildren, nephew and niece, as well as those of her closest friends who could travel, arrived from the USA, Canada, Switzerland, Oman, Malaysia and from around Australia to be by her side for a week of partying and quality time. For the Tyabjis, this was an especially momentous occasion as we we'd met together after a span of 26 years!

Michel Update |

Watch Michel and Rosa's latest YouTube video featuring Sufi singer Heyraneh in Promise to Freedom with special guest Techung. Says Michel "We completed production with Sufi artist Heyraneh's new album Promise to Freedom and we've been taking orders. Raised beside her Sufi spirited grandfather in Iran, educated by Catholic French nuns, initiated into Tibetan Buddhism in her late teens in the U.S, and then earning a PhD in French Literature, Heyraneh represents a new generation of artists in the field of World Spirituality. Every song in her new album is intently focused on the root intention of Sufi thought - the Beloved. Her lyrics and voice say it all."
After Michel's successful debut in composing music for film with Dalai Lama Renaissance, he composed music for the ashram scenes in Sony/ Columbia Pictures' Eat, Pray, Love starring Julia Roberts. August 13'th, when the film was released worldwide, was an important marker in Michel and Rosa's careers. He is now working on tracks for the upcoming film Christmas in Compton and a documentary about American attitudes towards the Islamic cultural center to be built in New York City, 2 blocks from the World Trade Center site.
While Rosa is making her debut as an independent film producer, Michel is busy with his next career step - moving his office to a new location in Los Angeles.
Finally, here's an article by anthropologist Geoffrey Clarfield which captures elements of the magical essence of Tanzania and highlights Michel and Rosa's work with musicians there.

Farhad Update |
November 2011
Never to let an opportunity slip by, Farhad’s passionate musical obsession has taken him far along the road of independent music production. Culture Yard Productions being Seattle’s premier sponsor of traditional reggae music, has gained notoriety from Sri Lanka to Jamaica and is spearheading a unique revival in the U.S reggae music scene. Farhad has moved further along his Journey in 2011, shifting Culture Yard’s reach up to an LLC, and moving into the business realms of Record Production, Distribution, and Publishing; Artist Management, Tour Management, and Music Video Production. Check out his work on CultureYard.com and YouTube/CultureYard; support his new Record Label by downloading their first 2 releases on iTunes or CDBaby, search for “Natural Wealth” by Unite-One and “Spread The Love” by Live Wyya. Farhad also has grown his skills as a bass-player in his 2 groups, and is eternally thankful to his 11 year-old spark-of-life Azura, his steady employer Tall Grass Bakery, and the wonderfully creative and fertile environment he enjoys in Seattle, WA.

Azura Update |
|
Azura has grown into a vibrant and confident 11-year old, full of original ideas and respect for the teachings and feelings of her parents and grand-parents. Azura graduated 5th Grade in June 2011, completing six fruitful years at Spruce Street School in Seattle. She accompanied her father on a spectacular 3 week summer vacation to see her grand-parents and great-grandparents in K.L, and attend her great-dadima Alice’s 100th birthday in Sydney. Highlights there were getting to know so many generations of family, underwater massages from Dr. Fish in K.L, the caress of a Python at the Deer Park, a re-visit to the Bird Park, the Sydney Zoo, and the explorations of various international airports, airlines, and foodstuffs. Azura made a seamless transition into her new school, the small, diverse Lake Washington Girls Middle School, where she continues to learn practical skills and feed her imagination. |
