Michel and The Lhasa Spirits performed to 30,000 people at an international music festival in Elista on 31 May 2009
The capital of the Republic of Kalmykia, also known as the chess capital of the world, resonated with the moving melodies of The Lhasa Spirits that Sunday evening. They performed again in Moscow on 2 July before returning home. |
Sheherzade Pundole and Preston Reaze will marry in October, in Cleveland. |

I hopped a flight to Singapore to catch up with cousin Freny Sukhia and her father who I had last met about 7 years ago. It was two days and nights of generally having a blast! What better way to recharge the spirit? - Hootoksi Tyabji |

More
With her new Renault Kangoo, wheelchair, ramp and burly chauffeur, Mum Roshan won't be found hanging around at home any more! After more than a year of near-total confinement she's once again free to roam at will. |
Robert has just returned from visiting mum Alice, sis Ursula and bro Bruce in Sydney. Mum Alice's new lodgings at the Dougherty Center Apartments are wonderful. She has a large, airy room and balcony with a nice view of trees and a quiet street, the staff are friendly and cheerful as well as highly competent and the facilities and services are perfectly suited to Mum's needs. In particular, she is fully integrated into the community of 50 residents and is an active participant in the Center's wide range of activities. |
Sydney, 7-10 March 2009
My intrepid mother Alice, 97, decided to go on a walkabout with nine other seniors from the Dougherty Apartments hostel. They got onto a bus to Port Stephens, 3 hours north of Sydney and checked into a farmhouse for 3 days and 2 nights. They then climbed into a boat and headed out into the Pacific Ocean to frolic with the dolphins. Mum's account, as published in the April issue of the Dougherty hostel's newsletter, is reproduced below:
Our Trip to Port Stephens
This country has everything! A magnificent lush coastline, superb golden beaches and even the most remote dry countryside offered such beauties as huge old trees and fat cattle. Most of all I loved the peace and fresh air, which we all enjoyed on the lovely Kookaburra Cottage Farm. We could milk a cow, feed a horde of various fowl and even wind a huge python around our necks. Rea was scared but gave in to be photographed. Accommodation was very good and the care and love given to us by Linda, Rea and Faye was splendid. We also enjoyed watching the dolphins and koalas. Hopefully we can make the trip again to see the whales come in later in the year-

Seattle, 4, 5 and 6 February, 2009
Farhad's biggest shows happened this week. Maxi Priest, arguably the premier name in popular reggae music, along with Ras Indio and DJ Element performed on 4'th February. Next, Farhad hosted Reggae Consciousness, his Fourth Annual Seattle Tribute to Bob Marley on 5'th and 6'th February. The festival featured local, regional, national and international musical talent, as well as Caribbean films, craft displays and food to honor reggae and African culture. Planned as an event for the whole family to enjoy, all ages were invited to dance it up, reggae style!
Said Farhad "My production company, Culture Yard, has been really busy so far this February with our Bob Marley Birthday Tribute concert. And look! The event drew some media attention!
Its a wonder I end up at this world-class venue (the King Kat Theatre) producing reggae music. Its really something! 400 people came that night, and every one of the 5 performing groups loved the interaction with the enthused audience, a large percentage of whom were under 21. But Friday Feb 6, Bob’s birthday, was the real victory. I had 500 ticket-buyers, a theater a-buzz with good vibes and plenty of great people and performers. The night ran smoothly and everyone was happy. I even squeezed in an acoustic performance from a troupe of 18 Capoeria dancers (a popular Afro-Brazillian martial art that uses drums), and had 9 vendors set up throughout. All the catered food sold out both nights, and I was able to donate $407 each to 2 charities, one local and environmental, and the other Jamaica-based. I was elated, and felt like it was a new year!" |

Techung's soaring Tibetan vocals and warm stage presence had the audience spellbound and screaming for more as a sea of Tibetan flags underlined his messages of Tibetan solidarity and freedom.
The concert was organized by the Taipei Association for Human Rights, Students for a Free Tibet and the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Taiwan.
Michel is compiling a CD of the music for distribution under the Limitless Sky label.
The concert follows the group's appearance in March 2008 at the International Music Festival in Penang, Malaysia. |

Michel Update |
|
Michel has composed music for the ashram scenes in Sony/Columbia Pictures' latest release Eat, Pray, Love starring Julia Roberts. August 13'th, when the film was released worldwide, was an important marker in Michel and Rosa's careers. Other film and television assignments for both Michel and Rosa keep coming in.
Michel has begun composing the music for a feature documentary about the urban farming movement in Detroit.
A Good Day to Die, the documentary on the legendary Native American leader Dennis Banks, for which Michel produced the music, had its world premier in June.
Meanwhile, to meet the industry's growing demand for outstanding music composition and production, Michel is using every spare moment to complete the construction of a new recording studio in North Hollywood. |

Farhad Update |
Characteristically, Farhad has been really busy this season! His recent events at Seattle's Nectar Lounge showcased US-based reggae bands Mystic Roots and Rise-n Shine, as well as his own Unite-One group in which he plays bass. He presented the legendary Third World group on the 5'th and 6th of August, showing his progression towards the musical big time. His Culture Yard Band will be performing at Seattle's humongous Hempfest 21-22 August.
The demand for Tall Grass Bakery's specialty breads is booming and Farhad has been clocking record sales in the farmers' markets around Seattle. |

And now she's started a signature campaign against Seattle's plan to replace the rides at the Seattle Center with a glass museum... :) ;) :( :-) ;-) :-( Smiley/winking/frowning w/ noses faces by Azura HERSELF!!!! :O |
