Hongera Neema!

Robert Tyabji

In the final few years of the millennium, Hootoksi and I were in Tanzania and were witness to recurring tragedies as the HIV/AIDS pandemic tore through communities. People were suffering and dying all around us. It was impossible to look away as no family anywhere was spared and all of us got involved in doing something to slow the pandemic and ease the pain.

Hootoksi and Sylvester Hanga, a local journalist, wrote a magazine story called Hongera Neema! (Congratulations Neema!) about a girl who overcomes the tragic loss of her family by AIDS. Click HERE to read.
