Michel's Limitless Sky Records moves to Los Angeles, October 7, 2005

Los Angeles, 10 October, 2005

In early October, Michel, Rosa and the entire Limitless Sky Records operation moved from Seattle to Los Angeles, into the very centre of the film and television production industry. They rented a U-Haul truck, loaded their equipment, personal belongings and all the recordings they had made over the years in Tanzania, New York and Seattle, and drove to the U-Haul depot in Los Angeles.

At the depot they were provided with a secure locker to store their belongings for a few days until they found suitable accommodation in the city.

But their luck ran out the third night when the depot was broken into and their precious recording and studio production equipment was stolen.

Imagine their shock and consternation when they returned to the depot that morning to find their storage unit broken into and much of their precious equipment taken.

More bad luck: the CCTV system at the depot had not functioned correctly on the night of the robbery so there was no visual record of the crime. Consequently, Michel was not in a position to file an insurance claim without the help of a lawyer. But engaging a lawyer in LA would have cost more than the value of the equipment!

They filed a police report but were advised not to have high expectations as the police were fully occupied with more serious crimes and had limited resources to attend to robberies; but they would assist in any way they could.

This was a devastating blow for the kids as they had just lost their livelihood!

The police were helpful; one of the officers probably sympathised with the two youngsters and offered advice which soon proved very effective. Following his cue, they had Rosa's mother post a wanted ad on ebay.com for the type of equipment that was stolen, and bingo, there was an immediate response! Accompanied by the cop, the kids visited the seller, who was part of a group of kids with police records. They were arrested and the equipment was retrieved.
