Tribute to Lion Noshir Pundole

Robert Tyabji, Shah ALam

My father-in-law Noshir Pundole was one of the most remarkable men I have ever met.

Born with the sharpest of business acumen, he was a key contributor to his family's finances from the time he was a teenager. Having successfully run the family business for a number of years, he worked in the textile manufacturing sector and then joined the Birla conglomerate to establish a palm oil processing industry in Malaysia. It quickly became a runaway success globally and helped establish Malaysia as the world's second largest palm oil producer, after Indonesia.

But his interests went far beyond business! As a young man in India, he is credited with establishing the Indian scout movement. As if that was not enough, he went on to introduce Lionism in India and Singapore, where he became known as the Father of Lionism.
